Nestling opposite the church, burial place of Captain Cook's mother, in the bustling historical town of Great Ayton which lies at the foot of the Cleveland Hills, the cottage is perfectly positioned for those wishing to explore the surrounding areas with some excellent walking and hiking in the area.

Great Ayton, known as the boyhood home of Captain Cook and complete with museum in his memory, attract visitors all year round. The Cook Country Tour is a circular route from Marton through Great Ayton, the coast at Saltburn, on to Staithes and Whitby, returning across the North Yorkshire Moors via Guisborough, a journey of discovery of Britain's most famous seaman and explorer, not to be missed
